FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

3. When will I get to do another harvest?

That is a very site specific question, and especially in the hardwood regions. In the pine regions there are more controlled rotation periods of say 25 - 35 years. In the hardwood region, with natural regeneration, and varying site and specie characteristics that answer will vary. One huge element in this equation is the property's use each and every day. If the property is being grazed by livestock, or how hard was it cut before, what is the species composition and health of the residual stand. All of those are huge factors in the investment potential of the site. Another big key element is aspect, meaning what direction does the property face; North and East facing slopes will grow better timber than South and West facing slopes. Also hollows or valleys tend to grow better timber than ridge tops. In the textbook scenario of a properly thinned stand today and good growing site characteristics you should be able to look at harvest options again in 15 - 25 years. Again that is the perfect textbook option. If the site is thinned too hard now, or poor species left in the residual, than you are more likely looking at 30 - 40 years before your next harvest. If you are asking this question, you really need to contact Clear Creek Forestry, and we will guarantee your highest long term investment value.
